How the bill is calculated
- 1
Metal value
Effective weight = net grams + (net × wastage%). Metal = effective weight × rate per gram. Stones and hallmark fees sit with metal for 3% GST.
- 2
Making charges
Choose ₹/gram, % of metal, or fixed amount — the three modes Indian counters actually use.
- 3
Discount (optional)
Cash discount comes off metal first, then making — same order as SwarnaVyapar GST invoices.
- 4
Split GST
3% on metal + stones; 5% on making. Intra-state: CGST + SGST. Inter-state: IGST.
- 5
Old gold & round-off
Old gold reduces net payable after tax. Optional nearest-rupee round-off matches counter cash drawers.
Example: 10g × ₹10,000/g + making ₹800/g → metal ₹1,00,000 + making ₹8,000. GST = 3% of metal (₹3,000) + 5% of making (₹400) → ₹3,400 tax → grand ₹1,11,400 (same-state CGST+SGST).
Jewellery billing FAQ
How is a jewellery bill calculated in India?+
Metal value = (net weight + wastage weight) × rate per gram. Add making charges (per gram, percent of metal, or fixed), stone value, and hallmark fee if charged. GST is typically 3% on metal + stones and 5% on making charges. Old gold reduces what the customer pays, not the taxable metal base.
Is GST 3% on the whole bill or split?+
Many shops still quote “3% GST on everything”. Under common jewellery GST practice mirrored in SwarnaVyapar invoices, metal and stones attract 3% (usually CGST 1.5% + SGST 1.5% within the state) while itemised making charges attract 5% (2.5% + 2.5%). Inter-state bills use IGST instead of CGST/SGST.
What is wastage on a gold bill?+
Wastage is extra gold weight charged for manufacturing loss. If net weight is 10g and wastage is 3%, effective weight becomes 10.3g before multiplying by the rate. Some shops fold wastage into making — always ask for an itemised bill.
How do making charges work — percent vs per gram?+
Per gram: making rate × net weight. Percent: making % × metal value (after wastage). Fixed: one flat amount for the piece. Bridal and temple work often use higher %; plain chains often use ₹/g.
Does old gold exchange reduce GST?+
No. In this calculator (and in SwarnaVyapar invoices), old-gold value is deducted from the amount payable after tax. It does not shrink the metal GST base — that keeps the bill compliant and CA-friendly.
Is this the same formula SwarnaVyapar uses on real invoices?+
Yes for line maths and split GST. The public tool is a planning calculator. Your live shop still applies your saved rates, inventory tags, HSN/SAC, customer GSTIN for intra/inter-state, loyalty, and print/WhatsApp from the invoice screen.
